My name is Eric Tomlinson and "Stupid Is..." is the culmination of characters I invented mixed in with a little bits of personality "stolen" from my boyhood "buds".

I first started drawing the characters in 1997, although mainly as a stress reliever, never with any serious dialogue or storylines. However, in 1999 that all changed when I decided to give it a go and create a comic strip. It was tough and frustrating sending out samples to syndications. The “thanks, but no thanks” letters came in droves. And, after a while life happens and I kinda just put the strip away.

Recently, however, I have become excited about the characters once again. I started with Davy and Kyle. Their characters came very easily to me. As you can probably tell, if you seen many of the strips, they are my favorite characters to write for. I think its because they are a combination of myself as a kid. I considered myself a leader but I could also be innocent and a bit shy ... at times. I turned these traits into two separate kids because I felt them bouncing off of each other could make for some funny and dynamic strips. The other characters came to me as I started reliving events from my childhood. Slowly but surely I had the nucleus of what the characters represent today ... idiocy.
